The latest episode of Insight Talks is now available, featuring James Tulloch, Head of Investment Specialists, in conversation with Valeria Moore, Deputy Head of Equity Research.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has dominated market headlines, but the investment story is moving beyond the first wave of enthusiasm. The discussion examines the transition from building AI infrastructure to deploying it across businesses, and whether demand can sustain the scale of current investment.

James and Valeria explore how semiconductor companies, cloud providers and data-centre infrastructure have benefited from the cycle. They also consider how lower-cost and task-specific models could support broader enterprise adoption, while improving operating efficiency for the companies providing AI services.

The conversation looks at the pressures surrounding hyperscaler capital expenditure. Strong demand and tight capacity continue to support investment, but cyclicality, funding costs and the need to generate durable returns remain important risks.

Power is another critical constraint. Expanding AI infrastructure will require substantial investment in grids, electrical equipment, cooling and construction, while continued semiconductor innovation is helping improve energy efficiency.

The episode concludes by considering regulation, cybersecurity and the need to balance innovation with appropriate safeguards as AI becomes more widely adopted.
