Insight Talks - September 2026

16 Sept 2026 | 14 minutes to read

Listen on Spotify and Apple.

The latest episode of Insight Talks is now available, featuring James Tulloch, Head of Investment Specialists, in conversation with Alejandro Velez, Senior Equity Analyst.

The discussion explores the ongoing US-Iran conflict and why hopes of a negotiated settlement have faded despite earlier ceasefire efforts. The team examines the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz and why both sides remain unwilling to compromise on an issue central to their objectives.

They also discuss how global markets and energy systems have proved more resilient than many anticipated, supported by strategic inventories, alternative transport routes and adjustments in global demand. However, while oil prices have avoided the extreme spikes feared earlier in the year, energy costs remain significantly higher and pressures are building elsewhere across the energy complex.

The podcast explores several emerging risks, including lower European gas storage levels, disruptions to refining capacity and the potential for further geopolitical and weather-related shocks to test existing market buffers.

From an investment perspective, the conversation considers how investors can position portfolios in an environment of continued geopolitical uncertainty, elevated energy prices and inflationary pressures.

The episode concludes with a discussion of the key indicators investors should monitor as the outlook for global energy markets and inflation continues to evolve.
